Question

Can you please confirm that cell A12 (assets held for index-linked and unit -linked funds) should contain assets only and exclude any liability items such as derivative liabilities?

Should A12 contain all asset types in a linked fund (e.g. including debtors, deferred tax etc) or just investment assets?

The definition for A12 in the technical annexe guidelines simply says "Assets held for insurance products where policyholder bears the risk (unit-linked)". Policyholders do not bear the risk of all index linked funds - should they be included in A12? What is intended by the inclusion of index linked in the cell name, but the focus on unit-linked in the technical annexe?

EIOPA answer

The cell A12 (now R0220) in the balance-sheet (assets held for index-linked and unit-linked contracts) should reflect all values included in the portfolio of index-linked and unit-linked contracts (contracts classified in line of business 31 as defined in Annex I of Delegated Regulation (EU) 2015/35), including any liabilities.
