Question

A company holds 30% interest in a collective investment funds but the company does not control or direct the investment strategy of the funds. Should the interest be disclosed as a participation or collective investment undertakings on the solo SII balance sheet and list of assets (S.06.02)?

EIOPA answer

The 30% interest (i.e. capital participation, equity stake, voting rights or contribution of capital etc.) in a collective investment undertaking is eligible to be reported as "Holdings in related undertakings, including participations", but it needs to follow a case-by-case assessment to consider different types of funds, e.g. consider the design of special funds.

It is worth noting that, even in case the holding in CIUs is reported as participations, the undertaking should apply the look-through for the purpose of reporting and SCR calculation.
