Question

A query has arose in relation to the instructions in S.19.01 for 2 specific items:
•    Gross Reported but not Settled Claims (RBNS) - triangle
•    Gross undiscounted Best Estimate Claims Provisions - triangle

The instructions attached to both of these items includes the following sentence "The data are in absolute amount, non-cumulative and undiscounted".
The issue is with the word "non-cumulative" above; why is this word included?

We can understand why it is included in the instructions for the item "Gross Claims Paid (non-cumulative) - triangle", but for the items listed in the two bullet points above, we would expect these triangles to be produced on a cumulative basis (i.e. not on an incrememtal basis).

We would be interested in views from other members at your earliest convenience.

EIOPA answer

For the Gross undiscounted Best Estimate Claim Provision each cell should be reported non-cumulative. This means that each diagonal will represent the BE at the end of each year. The same is applied also to the RBNS.
