Public access to documents

EIOPA is committed to upholding the right of any citizen to have access to documents of the EU’s institutions, bodies, offices and agencies, as set out in the Charter of Fundamental Rights (Article 42) and the Treaty on the functioning of the EU (Article 15(3)).

The rules governing how this right is exercised are laid down in:

• Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001 of the European Parliament and the Council regarding public access to European Parliament, Council and Commission documents. This regulation sets out the general principles and limits governing the right to have access to documents. It is applied to documents held by EIOPA by Article 72 of the EIOPA Regulation.
• A decision concerning public access to documents adopted by EIOPA’s Management Board on 31 May 2011. This decision set out practical measures to implement Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001.
