The European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) and the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission (JRC) today announced that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in advancing evidence-based research on natural catastrophe risks.

This cooperation aims to enhance Europe’s resilience to natural catastrophes by improving the understanding and management of related risks. The MoU will facilitate the exchange of data, expertise and best practices between the two organisations, enabling them to better assess the impact of natural disasters on the insurance sector and the broader economy.

Key areas of cooperation will include enhancing risk assessment methodologies and improving the collection and analysis of disaster loss data, contributing to more resilient and sustainable societies in Europe.
