The Board of Supervisors of the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) has elected Stavros Konstantas, Director of Occupational and Private Insurance Supervision at the Bank of Greece, to EIOPA’s Management Board.

Mr Konstantas replaces Ante Žigman, former President of the Board of the Croatian Financial Services Supervisory Agency (HANFA), following Mr Žigman’s appointment as Governor of the Croatian National Bank (HNB).

Mr Konstantas’ membership starts today, 13 August 2026, and will run for a period of two and a half years, with the option to extend for an additional term.

Background

EIOPA’s Management Board consists of EIOPA’s Chairperson and six representatives of national supervisory authorities. Its role is to ensure that EIOPA accomplishes its mission and fulfils the tasks assigned to it. A representative of the European Commission and EIOPA’s Executive Director also attend the meetings of the Management Board.

EIOPA’s main decision-making body on policy matters is the Board of Supervisors, to which the relevant supervisory authority of each EU Member State delegates voting members, while Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway delegate non-voting members.
