Salvatore Gnoni

Biography

Salvatore Gnoni is responsible for the Investor Protection and Intermediaries Unit at ESMA. His area of responsibility includes MiFID conduct of business, authorisation and organisational requirements, product intervention, crowdfunding, and the impact of innovation on investor protection. His Unit pays particular attention to strengthening supervisory convergence across the EU and promoting cross-sectoral approaches among the three ESAs.

Prior to joining ESMA in 2013, Mr Gnoni worked as a national expert at the European Commission, where he was actively involved in several regulatory workstreams, including the negotiation of MiFID II. Before joining the Commission, Mr Gnoni served as a Senior Officer at CONSOB, the Italian securities regulator, and at Banca d’Italia, working in various areas of regulation, supervision, and enforcement concerning banks, investment firms, and other financial institutions. He has been a speaker at numerous events. Mr Gnoni is qualified to practise as an attorney.
