EIOPA public workshop on Insurance Guarantee Schemes

EIOPA Public workshop on Insurance Guarantee Schemes is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 4 February 2026.

Current fragmentation of Insurance Guarantee Schemes (IGS) across EU Member States creates problems in the presence of failures involving cross-border business, potentially leading policyholders treated differently depending on where they are located. This impacts level playing field concerns and hence the proper functioning of the internal market in the EU.

Considering those reasons, EIOPA welcomes the initiative by the European Commission to assess whether establishing minimum common standards for IGS within the Union is suitable, and the received Call for Advice seeking for technical support by EIOPA.

With this workshop, EIOPA intends to engage early in the process with stakeholders to share preliminary / initial thoughts and to collect stakeholders’ views regarding different aspects of the Call for Advice.

Stakeholders will have the opportunity to provide written input by end of February 2026 via a public survey, which will be launched after the workshop. The access to this online survey will be disclosed immediate after the workshop and is open to public (participation to the workshop is not a prerequisite to answer the online survey).

The workshop will take place online via MS Teams on Wednesday 4 February 2026 from 10h00 – 12h00 CET
