Biography
Bernhard Mayr is a financial sector principal in the Chief Economist Department of the European Stability Mechanism (ESM), which he joined in November 2020. He acts as a visiting scholar to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and has been contributing to the IMF’s Financial Sector Assessment Programs. Before joining the ESM, Bernhard worked many years as Solvency II policy maker and financial stability expert, first with the Austrian and then UK authorities. He represented his institutions at various Solvency II working groups and as Vice-Chair of the EIOPA Financial Stability Committee. In 2013, he joined the International Association of Insurance Supervisors in Basel, where he was responsible for the financial stability related agenda and also represented the IAIS at respective working groups of the Financial Stability Board. Bernhard holds a doctorate from the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland.
