Based on EIOPA’s advice on the development of an EU single market for PPP, the EC issued a proposal for a regulation on a pan-European personal pension product (PEPP) in June 2017, which was discussed and assessed by the co-legislators, the European Parliament and Council.

In July 2016, EIOPA issued a Call for advice to the EC recommending the creation of a PEPP in the form of a complementary regime alongside national regimes.

Following the publication of the discussion paper, EIOPA submitted to the EC a preliminary report in 2014 Towards an EU single market for personal pensions. As a result, the EC called EIOPA for advice on a regulatory regime to develop an EU single market for Personal Pension Product.

Upon the request from the EC, EIOPA published in May 2013 a Discussion Paper on a possible EU single market for personal pension products.

In July 2012, the EC asked EIOPA to develop technical advice on an EU Internal Market for personal pension schemes.
